Firebug - Firefox Extension

February 4th, 2007 15:11

The latest version of Firebug is amazing. Install it now and start learning about all it’s new features.

John Resig made a nice screencast about hacking Digg using Firebug and jQuery. It doesn’t cover all of Firebug’s features but it should be enough to whet your appetite.

Disabling Snap

February 2nd, 2007 02:22

Tom Murphy posted a few days ago about his dislike for Snap (preview tooltips for links) and I am in agreement with him.  I have no use for this functionality though I’m sure others do.  For people like me though Snap does give you the ability to turn off these previews.

JQuery Documentation

February 1st, 2007 04:44

During the last week or so there has been some great news on the JQuery documentation front. Jörn Zaefferer released his JQuery API Browser and also made a download available, while Yehuda Katz also released a downloadable version of Visual JQuery.

dzone - fresh links for developers

June 16th, 2006 18:01

Dzone is a free link-sharing community for developers. They have an RSS feed for the frontpage and for individual entries, and also voting and tagging. I’ll subscribe for a while anyway and see how it goes.

Software Engineers Toolkit

April 21st, 2006 10:19

I was reading a mail about the procedure to follow when raising security issues in a public forum, and I really liked this at the end of one of the emails:

PS: Real engineers don’t need etiquette in their toolkits :)

Bazaar-NG

April 20th, 2006 00:17

Sam Ruby posted about Bazaar-NG, and I think it looks great. I’ve added it to my list o’things to spend some time looking into.

Webaroo

April 11th, 2006 21:43

I have to agree with John Paczkowski’s sentiments about Webaroo, the latest media hogging “Web 2.0″ startup.

Why this “stealth start-up” is being so widely discussed is beyond me. It’s conceived around a stale, ill-starred idea. With the wireless Internet becoming increasingly ubiquitous, there’s little need for applications like these.

Of course we shouldn’t be amazed by the amount of investment a company can raise, but for Webaroo to get $8 million is proves:

Man, we really are in a bubble.

More Stuff to Keep Track of

April 11th, 2006 01:34

I’ll be doing most of my blogging on software over at the Secantus Developer Blog from now on. I’ll still post the odd piece here, but it will be with even less frequency that now.

WordPress Upgrade - 2.0.2

March 12th, 2006 11:43

I just upgraded my blogs to use WordPress 2.0.2, please report any problems. Why did I upgrade?

An important security issue has been brought to the attention of the WordPress team and we have worked diligently to bring you a new stable release that addresses it. Our latest version 2.0.2 contains several bugfixes and security fixes.

The problems addressed are unannounced XSS issues privately discovered and reported to the WordPress team. Thanks to Mark Jaquith, Robert Deaton, and David House for assisting with this release.

Novell Desktop Linux

March 10th, 2006 00:45

I was excited when I read about Novell’s aquisition of Suse and Ximian a few years back. I was convinced that this could be the next big step for Linux acceptance, but for whatever reason it hasn’t happened. Purely based on the latest screenshots I really want to have a play with their new desktop version, it looks great.
